There are numerous opportunities for leadership at St John’s for boys of all ages.
For the younger boys, specific class roles are used to engender a sense or organisation and responsibility and boys are called upon from time to time to play specific roles that require a sense of maturity and reliability.
We run both a Food Committee for which boys may volunteer (Years 3 to 8) and a Pupil Parliament, where they are voted for by their peers (Years 3 to 8). The Food Committee work together to co-ordinate a range of events throughout the year including; 2 Grandparents’ Tea Parties, Themed Lunches and World Food Day. The Pupil Parliament cavass ideas from the wider school community and then discuss and implement a range of these ideas. The Food Committee is chaired by the Headmaster and the Pupil Parliament by the Deputy Headmaster.
As the boys become older and move further up the school so these opportunities increase. In their final year at St John’s the school goes to great lengths to ensure that each and every boy is given a role in which he can develop these important life skills whether he is Head Boy or Deputy Head Boy, an Official or a Monitor, Librarian, Sacristan, Animal Captain, Music Captain, Primus Dormitorii or a Sports Captain he will be given the opportunity to place himself at the service of others and in doing so to bring out the best in those around him.
