St John’s offers all pupils in the Middle and Senior school to participate in our optional ‘Cultural Programme’. This is a series of concert and performances that boys can attend that serve to widen their cultural and historical awareness of topics that very often fall outside of many curriculae but are nevertheless of great personal and cultural interest.
Such trips will very often include opera, ballet and classical music and this can very often fall outside boys’ experiences of live music. Each performance is preceded by a more formal dinner with staff.
The boys gain not only great enjoyment from trips of this nature but also very often openly admit that their perception of each genre has changed and the majority of boys will usually sign up enthusiastically for future trips.
Recent trips have included: Nutcracker ballet (Royal Albert Hall), Hansel and Gretel Royal Opera House), Romeo and Juliet ballet (Royal Opera House), Carmen (Royal Opera House), Strictly Gershwin ballet (London Coliseum), Three Days in May (Windsor Royal Theatre), The Verdict (Windsor Royal Theatre), Murder on the Nile (Windsor Royal Theatre), Swan Lake ballet (Windsor Royal Theatre). Don Giovanni (Royal Opera House), Carmen (London Coliseum), Billy Budd (London Coliseum)
